Rita Arnaus – First time in Brazil!!!! An incredible adventure
This kite trip has been one of the best experience in my life.
I remember my first day as the best, using my brand new kites in the paradise !! I have to say that Best is a brand with no limits, working hard every year to be one of the best brands in kitesurf. I’m super happy to be part of this amazing team.
Before I explain the story of my trip, I am going to explain you the gear with which I have been kiting all days and I had a very good feeling.
My Best GP kite surprise me everyday more and more, it’s amazing how easy is progression, it’s a ten freestyle kite!
I could try 13, 11, 9 and 7 meters with all conditions…gusty, light and strong wind, and never none have disappointed me, specifically the 13 meters because is such a big kite but works very well.
They have a lot of slack in the lines and give you an incredible pop.
Another thing I really like is that every time I do a trick and I put the kite in the correct place, it doesn’t move anymore, it has an amazing stability.
I should also mention my board, the Armada. I love it, with almost two months in Brazil has being strong as the first day. The advantages are that it is very light, the new channels make a super good grip on the water, good on flat water and waves and it is very manageable in the air, with a good pop and very easily rotate.
Also my new lycras and harness from Underwave , they have prepared me very well to confront the warmth of Brazil and being confortable all day kiting in Brazil.
I also was using a swimsuits called Wetsweets, they are from a friend of Barcelona who started with this new brand, and gave me those as a present. You can use it for water sports as kitesurfing, or lifestyle.
Well… let’s talk about the adventure!
The first days I was in Uruau. I liked this town so much because it’s small, not many pousadas, the lagoon is just 2 minutes walking, the village to 8 minutes, people are really nice and you easily can make new friends everywhere.
The locals told me that it hasn’t rained a lot this year and the lagoons were not so full of water, and yea, all the lagoons were quite small. But as everyone wants to kite, train and have fun, we respected each others and we always had the time to do the tricks.
Some days the wind was a little bit light but usually I loved it.
Every day I woke up very early and I used to do two sessions in the morning of about an hour and an half each other (sometimes with no break, haha) and another one in the afternoon for a couple of hours with the sunset view… non-stop!
Luckily or not, On Sundays the lagoons are full of locals with their cars to spend all day there, so the kiters have to move to the ocean. What’s give me a chance to take a rest.
After 15 days, I went to Cumbuco.
CUMBUCO!!! Such a wonderful place!! It’s a bigger town with a main street parallel to the beach, and there is a 4×4 streets in the main center with bars, restaurants, shops, supers … everything you need. I spent a month there, and I wished to stayed longer …
I stayed at the Pousada sextaquadra.it, It’s 6 minutes walking from the village, and one street to the beach. I couldn’t be in a better place, I felt like at home.
I had the honour to be in one of the best rooms with air conditioning, TV, study desk, closet, beautiful bathroom, and a hammock and chairs for myself, all made of wood! And the breakfast was delicious.
There is also a swimming pool, volleyball pitch and a great chill out. Restaurant service is available every lunchtime and there’s also a garden where you can clean your stuff and save it on lockers.
Every morning I woke up, I studied couple of hours, checked the windy conditions from my balcony and get ready to go to the Cauipe lagoon. 15 minutes downwind !!!!!
I loved to start the day like that, it was a good warmup for my legs, enjoying the sea and waves.
Cauipe used to be pretty crowd, except one day when I went with a friend in the sunset… we ride alone! Being in paradise and have the lagoon just for us, it was magical, incredible! The session was amazing, landing our best and new tricks, we couldn’t be happier and grateful for being there!
But a normal day we could be like thirty people riding, so you had to be patience, but anyway I enjoyed every minute in the water. Because other thing is that is so good to ride with more people, as you see them how they make the tricks and you help each other to improve.
Normally I spent the whole day in Cauipe, taking an hour of rest at lunch time to eat something, and then go back into the water.
Saturday and Sunday were the most funny days, many people from Fortaleza came to the lagoon for all day. Most of them have nice cars with huge speakers in the back, and as you imagine, they do his own party. I had never been in that situation, riding and listening music.
There’s not other way to go back if you don’t pay a buggy or renting one by yourself with a high chance to get broke!
It’s actually the best moment of the day when you return in the evening, exhausted of all day riding with the wind still blowing, enjoying the amazing sunset.
But one day, there was something else. My friend and I paid a buggy to return and we had a surprise…! The buggy driver drove to the huge dunes behind Cumbuco. They are so beautiful, it was a magical moment. We stopped above the highest and we could enjoy a very nice views across the village and surrounding countryside, also we saw Fortaleza.
But the best moment was when we went downhill with the buggy.. has been long time since I didn’t feel so much adrenaline as that day, invested, sideways and skidding through all the dunes, it was very exciting!
I have another story to explain.. one day we wanted to come back with some friends with his buggy, but at the time to leave the buggy didn’t work !! It was on Sunday, and it was getting dark, keep in mind that at six it is totally dark. There was no one else in the lagoon, just a group of Brazilians with their cars and loud music having a party.
We asked them for help and if they could tow up to Cumbuco… and with a lot of shrieking, drunks and loud music, we could understood. They tried to fix the buggy but didn’t work so they asked to us to join the party and after that they will tow up us. What a moment! We were all still in swimwear, dancing with the Brazilians, at dead of night, in the lagoon and enyoing the incredible sky with a lot of starts.
Imagine the way back, full of jokes and laughts at 10 p.m. through Brazilian beaches. No more words to say, they are very friendly and nice people.
Another spot nearby is Tabuba, the lagoon is a bit bigger. It is located on the other side of Cauipe and you need a bus to go there.
The day I went there the wind was strong and gusty, it’s why there was also a lot of choppy, and there were many kite schools giving courses. We decided to take some pictures and go back to Cumbuco.
I also had the opportunity to go to Paracurú with the Best Team for a whole day. We went to a huge spot with a lot of people kitting.
The sea there was very good for surfkite with good waves, and on shore was quite choppy, and also there was a good kicker to do the tricks. This day a storm came up, the wind changed the direction and start to blow up and rain heavily, was an experience!
In brief, it has been a trip which helped me to progress a lot, get more technical and power in my tricks. I met a lot of really nice people and made new friends. Clearly, Brazil is one of the best kite destinations in the world. Hopefully I would come back next year !!
And here it’s my trip video! Hope you like it.
